BLACK LAVA ROCK is the backbone of most of my pieces.  Lava symbolizes the duality of death and destruction on the one hand, and rebirth and new beginnings on the other.  Lava destroys everything in its path, but simultaneously creates islands and new land which in turn fosters future life.  In Hawaii, lava rock is considered sacred.  Our lava rock is sourced from India and China as it is forbidden and considered unethical to remove lava rock from Hawaii.  Metaphysical properties that are sometimes attributed to lava rock include stability and connection to the earth.  It is also said to help dissipate anger and promote positive change.
